What’s a Fish Eater to Do?

I read a very interesting article called: “What’s a Fish Eater to Do?” by Langdon Cook. While I don’t normally tend eat fish, this article did show me how to be an informed fish eater.

The article starts off by going into depth on the life of Kevin Davis, a successful chef in the Seattle area, and how he goes about buying fish and how to be an informed buyer.

One of the biggest things that stands out as good fish is price. Davis says to expect to pay for what you get. Generally, fish that is more expensive is going to taste better and more likely to be caught humanely.

Another thing that Davis says is important is buying local fish and fish products. Always make sure the person you are buying from is a reputable and reliable source. “Support your local commercial fisherman. Ask questions.” Says Davis.

Johnny Fishmonger, A man with a last name practically perfect for the job title, is an owner of a fishing company. Along with running Fish Business Company, he’s usually asks a lot of questions to sleuth out seafood fraud and mislabeling. “You can’t trust most of the retailers and distributors,” Says Johnny.

While fish is certainly delicious, it is not one of the foods you want coming from farm to table. Fishing farms and disregard for ocean life is destroying the environment and is slowly depleting the aquatic life that lives in it.

Make sure next time you eat something from the sea, it’s fresh and caught humanely.
